Paranoia? Or a love story? Or a disaster? Or an exercise in ass-kicking? Well, odd things have happened in LA's Chinatown before, even if not on the level as this oddly smashing one from Twenty One Pilots.
This homage to those old grade school documentaries — nothing as scary or cute as this, thankfully — takes Twenty One Pilots from a one-camera lo-fi video capture of their first show to 12 lookie loos and on through to a pro-shoot of a massive two-night stand for 12,000 fans.
Do not assume this is just a video of a strummy ukulele tune played amongst rolling hills of gold. It's something much more twisted that hints at something way darker than the "serenading a loved one" concept.
And when you rewatch, you'll understand why there all those farm equipment close-ups in the intro...
Reel Bear Media / Mark C. Eshleman and Twenty One Pilots come together once again for another music video from the album Vessel. This time, the guys will be performing "Migraine".
This latest video for the camera-friendly Twenty One Pilots pulls off two tricky feats:
If you're gonna have a mid-video head shave, you only get one chance to get it right. Unless you can afford to wrap production for it to grow back and try again.
Getting a live audience to stand stock-still and then going into a frenzied human whirlpool
Neither is technically hard, of course, but good luck finding a frontman or fanbase as committed...
Why the Balaclava? The subtitled intro? The duct tape helmets? Who cares. Here's a performance video that gallops along thanks to Twenty One Pilots' manic energy and Reel Bear Media's ability to find just the right off-kilter camera angles.
