Can Ariana Grande Usher in a New Age of MTV TRL?

MTV is resurrecting their era-defining video show TRL in honor of newly-minted pop superstar Ariana Grande. It's a one-night-only special and save your requests, because the show title Total Ariana Live is all you need to know about the content.

The thirty minute show kicks off tomorrow, Wednesday, July 2 @ 7pm, broadcasting from TRL's former Times Square studio (which is now regularly occupied by Vh1's Big Morning Buzz Live).

And sorry Carson Daly fans: MTV personality Sway will handle the emcee duties as Grande performs her smash "Problem," rolls out the follow-up "Break Free" and takes part in a few promised surprises.

One surprise I wouldn't expect? A cameo by Jesse Camp

The Videostatic Interview: Cameron Duddy

As is the case with many directors, Cameron Duddy can tell a good story. And since it's a long story — but a good one, I promise — I'll skip a big introduction. Let's just say you've undoubtedly seen some of his videos for Bruno Mars, AWOLNATION, Grouplove and beyond... And despite the occasional tall tale — another common director's trait — there's also some unvarnished truth. For instance, ask him why his one-take music video for "The Lazy Song" has overr a half BILLION YouTube views, his answer is, "I have no fucking clue." (Although, on second thought, maybe he's just protecting his trade secrets, like any good director would)

Read on for our conversation, which takes lots of twists and turns along the way...
