Lil Wayne is a modern music rarity — unifying the championship belts of
Street and Sales into one dominant package. Weezy F is so
unstoppable that he walks for this entire clip, leading us through the
backstage area of a video shoot. The journey is complicated and
authentic — he even stops off at the honeywagon — but it never slows
his flow. The documentary feel lends a seat-of-the-pants feeling that
totally fits the rushed circumstances in quickly getting a video done to support a song that was
blowing up at radio. [review by Doug Stern]
Dayo, director: The commissioner Jeff Panzer came up with the idea to shoot the video as a 1 shot deal. Something that we could possibly shoot at the same time as "Got Money," which is Lil Wayne's official second single. Wayne liked the idea, just as something to keep feeding the people. We put a small unit together and shot four takes of Wayne coming out of his trailer, doing wardrobe and hair, going to the bathroom, stopping for photos and autographs and basically making his way to the set of "Got Money." Oh, and we shot it in one hour during lunch!
