2010: MTV VMA Nominees

MTV announced the 2010 MTV Video Music Award Nominees today. As expected, it's all about Lady Gaga with a record breaking 13 nominations and, in a rare feat, both "Bad Romance" and "Telephone" are nominated in the Video of The Year category. Other Video of the Year nominees are: 30 Seconds To Mars "Kings and Queens", B.o.B. f/ Haley Williams "Airplanes", Eminem "Not Afraid", and Florence + The Machine "Dog Days Are Over", which is the other big story of the 2010 VMA nominees.

Underground act Florence + The Machine will crash the mainstream, thanks to five nominations for the LEGS-directed "Dog Days Are Over" clip,  including the aformentioned nod for Video Of The Year.

trivia: Other artists/acts to score two VOTY nominees in the same year are: David Lee Roth in 1985 and U2 in 1988. It's also worth noting that neither of them took home the award, so don't throw any money down on Lady Gaga.

NEWS: 2010 MTV Awards Season

Mtv_2010logo MTV has announced dates, locations and a few details for the 2010 installments of the MTV Movie Awards and the MTV Video Music Awards...

  • MTV Movie Awards will air live, Sunday, June 6 at 9pm from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, CA. Reality show kingpin Mark Burnett is executive producing for the fourth straight year.
  • The MTV Video Music Awards will return to Los Angeles after being held in NYC this past year. A venue is still TBD, but the date is set for Sunday, September 12. Jesse Ignjatovic of Den of Thieves is once again the Executive Producer.

For those who like numbers n stuff, here's some info on last year's VMAs from the press release:

The "2009 MTV Video Music Awards” was 2009's most watched non-sports cable telecast among P12-34. Delivering a 7.5 P12-34 coverage rating and an average of 9 million total viewers on MTV, the “VMA”s marked its largest audience since 2004. The show attracted 1.7 million unique visitors on MTV.com, including traffic to show pages, flipbooks, video content, and news related to the “Video Music Awards.” This marked 24% increase over 2008’s day-of figures, making this the best “VMA” premiere day in MTV.com history.

Also, regarding that new logo: Yes, MTV streamlined their logo, removing the words Music Television from the bottom. Seeing as how just as many people refer to MTV as Music Television as there are people who consider it an abomination to call NBC anything other than the National Broadcasting Company, this makes sense. Also, small text doesn't reproduce at small sizes on small screens very well at all. It's too small. And since people identify the big "M" and the overlaid "TV" as MTV, they really don't need the extraneous text. And yes, it's surely a better reflection of the diverse content that MTV actually airs.
